Thekkady is the location of the Periyar National Park, which is an important tourist attraction in the Kerala state of India.

Ashtamudi Lake

Ashtamudi Lake, in the Kollam District of the Indian state of Kerala, is the most visited backwater and lake in the state. It possesses a unique wetland ecosystem and a large palm-shaped water body, second only in size to the Vembanad estuary ecosystem of the state. Known as the "GATEWAY OF KERALA BACKWATERS" the lake is connected by Vembanadu and Alleppey in the north, kappil in the south. In and around the lake, there are many options for safari holidays either exploring the shore’s of Lake Ashtamudi or on her village game reserves.
